How to Adjust the Sensitivity of a CP-4 Free Exit Device by Cartell
Overview
In this how-to article, you will learn how to adjust the sensitivity of your CP-4 Free Exit Device by Cartell. In most cases, the sensitivity will not need to be adjusted as it is factory set to the highest setting. Lowering the sensitivity can be useful if the exit sensor is sensing objects that should not be opening the gate (such as bicycles, gardening equipment, horseshoes, etc)
What You Need
- Phillips head screwdriver
Procedure
Test Sensor
Before burying the sensor, test it's range. A vehicle traveling at least 5 MPH while passing the sensor will be detected and will activate the free exit device. The size and speed of other metal objects passing the sensor may also activate the device. Test your sensor with the object you are trying to avoid activating the device with. Ensure the sensor does not shift during testing as that may result in false operations.
Open Sensor
- Remove the 4 phillips head screws from the top of the device.
- Remove the cover from the device.
Adjust Sensitivity
The CP4 Free Exit Device has three different sensitivity ranges. Use the chart below to determine your required sensitivity. The default setting is 12-14' of range with both switches set in the off/down position.
Retest
Continue to test the sensor and adjust the range until you are satisfied with the sensitivity.
Close Sensor
- Put the cover back on the device.
- Tighten the 4 screws in a criss-cross pattern a few turns at a time until fully tightened. This will ensure the device seals are closed correctly.
