E11 Is Displayed on the Battery Controller

E11 Is Displayed on the Battery Controller

Overview

The "E11" error code on the battery controller indicates that the battery voltage has dropped below 12 volts.  The gate opener works off of the battery and the charging system is meant to maintain that battery. If the battery gets weak, "E11" will display on the battery controller and the gate will be running poorly if at all. The battery should be load tested to confirm whether or not it is capable of holding a charge.

What You Need

  1. Tool(s) to loosen the battery terminals

Procedure

Remove the Battery and Have it Load Tested

The first thing we recommend doing when you see this error code is to have the battery tested. Remove the battery from the opener cabinet and take it to a battery or auto parts store and ask to have it load tested.

Battery Fails Load Test
Replacing the battery should resolve the issue.
Battery Passes Load Test
Have them charge it for you or charge it on an external battery charger and reinstall the battery into the opener.
Recurring E11 Error: If the "E11" code occurs again after having the battery tested as good or replaced, the battery charging system may be having a problem.

Check Your Charging System For Issues

For solar charged systems, ensure that the solar panel has no obstructions blocking the sunlight. Any amount of shade on a solar panel is detrimental to its performance. A panel's output can drop by 90% from just a small amount of shade. Relocating the panel to a location where it won't be shaded can resolve a recurring E11 code.
For AC charged systems, confirm that the outlet the transformer is plugged into is functional. Plug in a different device to see if it works or not. If the outlet is on a specific breaker, confirm the breaker is not tripped.
If you've checked the charging system and it appears to be working correctly yet you still get the E11 error, please call technical support with a description of the problem at (972) 221-7000.
