How to Measure DC Adapter Output
Overview
In this article you will learn how to measure DC adapter output. Performing this test will confirm whether or not the DC Adapter is working correctly.
What You Need
- Digital Multi-meter capable of reading DC voltage and DC amperage. The fuses in the meter must be good.
Procedure
Disconnect DC Adapter
Unplug the DC adapter form the battery controller.
Measure DC Adapter Voltage
- Change the meter setting to DC voltage, range of 200.
- Put the positive lead (red) of the meter in the inside of the barrel connector.
- Touch the negative lead (black) of the meter to the outside of the barrel connector.
- This should read from 19 to 21 volts DC.
Measure DC Adapter Amperage
- Change the meter setting to "10A".
- Move the red lead of the volt meter into the "10A" spot.
- Put the positive lead (red) of the meter in the inside of the barrel connector.
- Touch the negative lead (black) of the meter to the outside of the barrel connector.
- This should read 1.7-2.2 amps.
